Steve Scheckman is a partner in the New Orleans office of Schiff, Scheckman & White LLP providing legal advice and representation on behalf lawyers and judges concerning matters involving legal and judicial ethics. It has been reported that he is "a New Orleans attorney judges and lawyers turn to when they are in trouble." (NOLA.com 9/25/13). Mr. Scheckman served as the first Special Counsel (Disciplinary Counsel) appointed and employed full-time by the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana (1994-2008) and as the Deputy Administrator of the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct (2008-2009). In both Louisiana and New York, together with staff, he was responsible for the investigation and prosecution of cases of judicial misconduct. Mr. Scheckman also previously served as the first General Counsel appointed and employed by the New Orleans Ethics Review Board (2009-2014) and as the first legal counsel appointed by the Jefferson Parish Ethics & Compliance Commission (2012-2017). Prior to his involvment in the fields of judicial and legal ethics, Mr. Scheckman was engaged in the practice of law in New Orleans (1978-1993), including as a staff attorney for three years with the New Orleans Legal Assistance Corporation, where his practice was focuesd on the areas of civil rights, civil liberties and juvenile justice issues. Mr. Scheckman has also previously served as an Adjunct Professor of Law on the faculty of Tulane Law School and as an ad hoc judge for the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court. He is is a cum laude graduate of Ohio University and the Tulane University School of Law.
